Re: Another look at 100 yard shooting

Grouse, I respect and agree with your concerns about the coyotes. A coyote killed my 1/2 grown male kitten in my yard. That didn’t leave good feelings with me. About 20-25 years ago, an extreme cold spell gripped the entire Central US. Ice , snow, bitter cold, single F digits above and below zero fo...

Re: Who would like to see Peter Balfour, Bill and Kathy at Boofest?

I feel honored (honoured in English & Canadian) to get to be a part of this forum. When I went to school in England (they call it “University” , I call it school), all my papers had to be written in proper English, not American. HARD to believe, but the Queen stopped at our driveway (Merton England)...

Re: Who would like to see Peter Balfour, Bill and Kathy at Boofest?

I’m hoping to get to come and would like to meet them also. The Assassin seems to state that Excalibur isn’t going to fall over and play dead while the compounds keep progressing. The Assassin is meeting the wants and actual needs of the vast majority of sane crossbow users. I still like my M405s bu...

Re: Is anyone out there using WOOD ARROWS ?

Okay, I'm just going to say it and not dance around the truth. Shooting wooden shafts from our modern crossbows is foolish. Period! You can't test the structural integrity of the wooden arrows and you're playing Russian roulette by using them. I have no understanding why you would even consider and...

Re: Another look at 100 yard shooting

Most of you are correct. You are not bowhunters, your crossbow hunters. Just like there are gun hunters, compound hunters , recurve hunters, longbow hunters and selfbow hunters. There not all the same. After you have hunted for 55 years from the ground with a recurve/longbow, you will realize you wo...

Re: Finally Out Priced.

My last 2 Excaliburs were bought used. All of my arrows were the factory fletched Spynal Tapps that I de-fletched, spine indexed, cut and squared and constructed. Still cost quite a bit, but at least I feel like I saved a little. I occasionally get a wild hair and want something like the fastest Sco...

I agree with all the other posters. Deer move in the rain. Fish bite during the rain. Low chest shot!

Re: Another look at 100 yard shooting

" Yes make crossbows more accurate, quieter, smaller but we need to be careful not to make them too fast and powerful. Ideally they should be equivalent to vertical bows " This is just what Excalibur has done. The Assassin. I like this company. Obviously, I have 4 of them. I think an objective readi...

When you wound your next deer just remember it already has a 100 yard head start on you. Good luck to you.

Except for the very small percentage, deer hunting @ 100 yds is not advisable. I don’t consider myself normally in that percentage.

Another look at 100 yard shooting

This subject has gone on for years but often prejudices , etc have been the primary objection to longer range vertical or horizontal long range shooting and especially hunting. A person can state that “archery has ALWAYS been a short range sport”, etc but that’s just an opinion or conviction but not...

Re: string size

There are various materials for the string, serving, different lengths of serving, and #s of strands in the string. The makers can discuss pros and cons of each. I think the serving material of 0.036” Angel Majesty is commonly accepted as about as good as it gets. The factory strings are great value...
